Special Education/ Educación Especial

Austin ISD Special Education Department

T.A. Brown Elementary School has a Resource Special Education program. Our Resource program is Bilingual and English only. Based on student needs, students may be eligible for transportation.

General Information - To determine if your child is eligible for Special Education services, an Admissions, Review and Dismissal (ARD) will be held to review or plan for an evaluation. The committee includes a school administrator, special education teacher, general education teacher, evaluator (if necessary), and the child’s parents. If your child is eligible, the committee will discuss possible programs that will support your child’s needs. At this campus, the program available is Resource.

Resource - Special education services provided to eligible elementary students in grades 1 - 5. Support addresses and promotes students’ academic, cognitive, and social growth. When considering resource support, the ARD committee will first determine the least restrictive environment (LRE) for services to occur. If your child is eligible for the Resource program, he/she will receive specialized instruction in the areas of need identified on their IEP. Students receiving Resource support are eligible for accommodations and/or modifications, as written in their IEP for both daily tasks and statewide tests.
