I wanted to take a minute to introduce myself and let everyone know how happy I am to be the new counselor for T.A. Brown ES.
My name is Amber Navarro, and I have been an elementary counselor for about 5 years back in New Mexico, and for almost 3 years I worked in Elgin ISD on a grant for mental health/crisis counseling at the high school. Although I am technically a TX native, I grew up in Albuquerque, NM, and have been in Austin for just about 3 years now. I have two sons, ages 6 and 8, who keep me very busy, and I am married to my college sweetheart, who I met when I was just 17 years old. We are very happy to be living in Austin/Round Rock, as we enjoy the warmer weather and the multiple family activities available in this area.
Professionally, I have certifications in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Play therapy ( Sand Tray), as well as animal-assisted therapy. I have a pug who works with me when the campus allows for her. When I work with children and families, I think the most important attribute is genuineness and a love for the whole child. In the classroom, I enjoy presenting lessons to the students and incorporating art, puppets, music, and as much fun as possible! I am very happy to be working with elementary students once again, and I look forward to getting to know all of you as well as all of the children on campus, as well as their families and support systems.
